Sislej Xhafa — "The Shadows"

As part of “Gibellina, Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2026,” Kosovar artist Sislej Xhafa presents “Le ombre” (The Shadows), a project dedicated to the elderly residents of Gibellina: the silhouettes cast by the residents’ shadows—captured in the city’s squares and public spaces—become three-dimensional forms that populate the System of Squares, transforming it into a sort of collective negative portrait. The work, on view through November 29, symbolically bridges the gap between the city of people and the city of architecture. Sponsored by the General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Sicilian Region, the Municipality of Gibellina, the “Ludovico Corrao” Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Orestiadi Foundation.
